The pretty Scottish seaside town named one of the most romantic in the UK

A Scottish seaside town has been named among the most romantic spots in the UK in a new study.

With just over two weeks until Valentine's Day, it is time to start thinking about how to celebrate the big day with your loved one.

Whether it's a romantic dinner or a spa getaway, there are plenty of ways to spend the day.

If you're looking to go one step further when celebrating the holiday, though, then you might want to consider a day or weekend trip. Fortunately, there are countless picturesque spots throughout the UK to head this February.

To help couples decide where to go, Holiday specialists Parkdean Resorts looked at the UK locations that are sure to get hearts racing and romance blossoming for couples. Among the destinations included is Wemyss Bay on the coast of the Firth of Clyde.

Located around 50 minutes from Glasgow, the pretty seaside town is the port for ferries on the Sea Road to Rothesay on the Isle of Bute. Its name comes from the Clan Wemyss, and has a history dating back to the 15th century.

Wemyss Bay's picturesque setting and delicious restaurants make it a perfect spot for a romantic getaway. You can also pose for a photo with your loved one beneath the glass roof of the beautiful and historic Wemyss Bay Station.

Another potential romantic activity is wandering down to the Victorian pier and strolling along the beach for the sunset. There are also plenty of pretty walking trails nearby.

The Inverclyde Coastal path offers one-of-a-kind walks, including views across the Clyde to the Dumbartonshire hills, the Argyllshire hills, and the Highlands. It is the perfect way to take in the different scenes this region has to offer, combining sea views with expansive woodlands.

If you're feeling up to it, it is definitely worth heading over to the Isle of Bute, which is home to romantic highlights such as Ardencraig Gardens and the West Island Way. There are also plenty of tasty restaurants and charming pubs to head to for food or drink.
