The Premier League record that Arsenal icon Ian Wright has now given up

Jamie Vardy became the player with the most Premier League goals after his 30th birthday on Tuesday night after scoring for Leicester City in their 2-0 win over Burnley.

In doing so, the 35-year-old striker has now overtaken Arsenal icon Ian Wright with 94 goals after turning 30 - the most out of any player who has played in the English top-flight since the league was drastically changed in 1992.

Vardy, who had been sidelined with an injury before coming off the bench at Burnley, scored the second goal in Leicester's win at Turf Moor - with former Arsenal target James Maddison netting the first.

The former England striker equalled Wright's record in November, and it took a while for him to overtake the ex-Gunners forward due to injury problems sustained this season.

Speaking after Vardy equalled his record, Wright was asked which current striker reminds him the most of himself and said: "Jamie Vardy.

"And you know what I love about him? I love when Jamie Vardy teases (the opposition).

"When he blasted onto the scene, when he scored that goal against United when [Leicester] were just magnificent in that game, I remember saying 'if that guy carries on what he's doing, he will play for England'.

"I got hammered. They were cooking me for it. I saw everything in him: pace, desire, finishing ability, hard work. I saw every single thing in Jamie Vardy and I still see it to this day.

"I adore him. I adore him for what he does and the path he's blazing. I love Jamie, bro."

Vardy's next personal ambition may well be to reach 100 goals after turning 30, something he is only six away from doing.
