A Poundland jug costing just £5 could save people a whopping £300 a year.

Household bills are set to increase from the 1st of April as price caps are raised, with many of us looking for cheap tips and tricks to help ease the burden of climbing costs.

AQUAPHOR claims its water filters, which can be found in the saver store, are the perfect way for those who regularly buy water to cut down their spending.

The company has calculated that using a water filter jug could save a single person around £300 per year or £700 for a household of four, Manchester Evening News reports.

AQUAPHOR's MD, Nigel Wheeler, said: "We wipe out the need for obtaining clean water from the constant purchase of plastic bottles, we also reduce impact on the environment in terms of single-use plastics.

"Even low-cost plastic water bottles regularly purchased from Tesco adds up and can end up costing you up £1,000 a year," says Wheeler.

"That's the extra spend households are going to have to find from the 1st April just to tread water."

According to AQUAPHOR, over 30% of households in Britain now have water filter jugs as an alternative to expensive plastic bottled water.

Nigel Wheeler. said: "The pandemic has well and truly sold Brits on the importance of clean water in terms of removing nasties from tap water."

As such the category of water filters is set to grow 6% globally over the next 5 years.

Regional variants such see the hardness of water particularly troublesome in a number of areas in the East of England.

"Everyone is clambering to water filter solutions to essentially Lifehack," says Wheeler.

"It's a fantastic way of managing the lifespan of the filter without needing to pay for or install a battery."
