HERE COMES PAUL SKENES!
After making Triple-A batters look like little leaguers over his first seven starts this season, the No. 1 overall pick of the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2023 is getting called up to the big leagues. He’ll make his Major League debut on Sunday against the Chicago Cubs.
It was truly only a matter of time for Skenes this year and everyone who watched him throw in minors knew it.
The 21-year-old LSU product twirled 27.1 innings for the Indianapolis Indians with a sterling 0.99 ERA and 0.91 WHIP while striking out 45 batters on just eight walks.
The hype is justifiably out of control and Pirates fans should absolutely enjoy it. Pittsburgh’s social media team certainly is.

Consider Skenes didn’t give up his first home run as professional ballplayer until May 5 — a full 12 starts into his minor league career. He truly couldn’t help tormenting hitters, as MLB is all too happy to remind them.

Congratulations to whoever faces the Indy Indians moving forward. You won’t have to deal with one the sport’s looming stars staring you down. He’s a problem MLB hitters have to deal with now.
