The Packers cut linebacker Jonathan Garvin on his birthday and everyone felt so bad for him

Look, man. You don’t have to look around hard to see the NFL is a pretty cutthroat league. Just ask the NFL’s running backs about how cold it can be.

But, yo. Firing somebody on their birthday is WILD. Especially after you literally tell them a happy birthday.

That’s what happened to former Packers linebacker Jonathan Garvin. It’s Garvin’s birthday today, which is pretty cool. He turned 24 years old today, which is also great and definitely something worth celebrating.

As a gift, the Packers handed my guy a pink slip. He was cut by Green Bay on his birthday, according to The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman.

This was only THREE HOURS after the Packers wished this man a happy birthday.

This is just WILD. Imagine telling someone happy birthday but then also firing them on the same day. That birthday is immediately ruined folks. In fact, I can’t think of many worse birthday circumstances than this one here.

And, look, I feel for the poor social media manager who sent this tweet. They probably feel terrible now, honestly. There’s no way they could’ve known this was coming, to be completely fair to them.

But, man. What a terrible circumstance all around. Everyone felt so bad for Garvin here.

Hopefully, Garvin lands on his feet somewhere soon. But, uh, for the future, Green Bay, it’ll probably do you all some good to cue your social team in on some of your roster moves. This isn’t a good look.
