The owner of Cardiff's much-loved Creperie de Claudie is shutting it and moving to France

The owner of a popular family-run crêperie in Cardiff has announced that it will be permanently closing. La Crêperie de Claudie on Victoria Park Road West in the Canton area of the city is set to close its doors at the end of the month after 10 years in business.

Owner of the business, Claudie Ravon, announced the closure on Facebook. In a post, she wrote: "I am announcing with extreme sadness that La Crêperie de Claudie will be permanently closed from April 28th. It has been an amazing journey with you all. I would like to thank my staff, my customers, and all the support my family and I received through these unforgettable 10 years.

"The crêperie wouldn’t be what it has become without you. I look forward to a new chapter of my life, in Strasbourg - Alsace, France. I will be selling some of my paintings at a knocked down price [...] Feel free to come in to have a look at the canvases."

Claudie, 52, set up the business shortly after moving to Cardiff in 2012, opening the crêperie in September of that year. Originally from Brittany, she told WalesOnline that she wanted "to bring a part of my country" to Cardiff.

"It's common to eat pancakes in Brittany every day so it was just to bring a part of my life for people to discover it," Claudie said. "At this time, there were no crêperie ten years ago, but now I know there are a few."

The crêperie kept authenticity and freshness at its heart, with Claudie making a homemade batter on-site using a traditional recipe that had been handed down from generations in her family. The extensive menu offered a range of sweet crêpes, savoury galettes, and gaufres (waffles), as well as baguettes, croissants, and salads.

She added that she was "sad" to be leaving Cardiff, saying: "I like the people here. At my crêperie, people were really kind, really friendly. I was happy here - I created this business and it worked well.

"It was a nice experience, it was lovely. I was working around seven days a week but yes, I met a lot of nice people. The people made my business because the customers were really kind to me. All the colleagues were really kind - without them, I couldn't do my business. I was nothing without them. So, I'm glad I met a lot of nice people."

Claudie added that she wanted to thanks her customers, friends, son, Thibault, and daughter, Astrid. "It was a family business," she said. "When I came [to Cardiff] they were teenagers, so they used to work a lot at the crêperie. I think people remember by son and daughter."
