The oversubscribed Leeds school parents are desperate to get their kids into

More than half of parents who wanted to get their children into a popular Leeds primary faced disappointment as the top school emerges as the 'most oversubscribed' in the city.

With only 60 places available, Roundhay Primary School saw 137 people list the school as their first preference choice. But only 43.8% of first place applicants went on to actually get a place.

There were a further 249 second and third place applicants making for a total of 6.4 preferences per offer.

With children returning to school for the new year, applications for places for those set to start primary or secondary school next September are starting to open. The application deadline for applying for a secondary place is October 31, while it is January 15, 2023, for primary applications.

For this September, 83% of applicants got their first choice of secondary school, up from 81% in 2021. This increase is affected by the return of selective school tests to their original timetable.

The proportion of primary school applicants who received their first choice school remained at 92%.
