Saatchi Art’s The Other Art Fair is returning for another jam-packed weekend, bringing together creatives, artists, emerging talent, music, art installations and more under one roof in East London in October.
The art fair, which is set to take over Shoreditch’s The Truman Brewery, is an opportunity for art lovers to bag incredible pieces from as many as 120 emerging artists, most of whom will be present selling their own works.
“Art isn’t confined to convention or rule, and how you enjoy it shouldn’t be either,” the Other Art Fair says on its website. “We combine original yet affordable works from independent artists with immersive installations, performances, DJs – and a fully stocked bar.”
At London’s autumn edition of the exciting art event, guest artists Gods Own Junkyard will be transforming the Truman Brewery into a Seventies-themed “Soho-style neon extravaganza” to celebrate 70 years – and four generations – in the business.
There will be a pop-up shop dedicated to the neon company and legendary British photographer David Ellis will also be on hand to take photos of guests at the shop.
Gods Own Junkyard, which was established in 1953, has played an integral part in the way Soho looks today, designing the signs for legendary locations including Ronnie Scott’s, Bar Italia and The Windmill.
The neon designers have also made work for films including Bladerunner, The Dark Knight, Eyes Wide Shut and Casino Royale and have seen their designs pop up in music videos, on catwalks, and in fashion shoots over the decades.
Gods Own Junkyard’s studio in Walthamstow is often used for magazine photoshoots, and so to recreate the feel of the North London space, acclaimed photographer David Ellis – who has shot celebrities including Sir David Attenborough, Cristiano Ronaldo, Tony Blair and Usain Bolt – will be present at the pop-up, shop taking pictures of guests.
Visitors who have their photo taken will receive a digital version of their chosen photo, and will also have the option to buy print versions of the images.
Saatchi Art’s The Other Art Fair takes place in major cities around the world including Chicago, Los Angeles and Melbourne. The fair has been created to encourage more of an open exchange in art: “A place where art feels accessible, where everyone fits in, where the experience exists outside of four white walls and the same four artists? That’s not normal. That’s The Other Art Fair,” its website says.
