Tiger Woods might be saying farewell to St Andrews this afternoon. The 15-times Major champion opened his curtains this morning to dark clouds and drizzle and the outlook on the course isn’t much better. Woods is six shots off the predicted halfway cut-line going into round two and crowds are already gathering in the gloom to see him get going at 9.58am.
Given the slow play on Thursday, should the 46-year-old fail to shoot low, he may well be saying goodbye to his favourite place on the Swilcan Bridge around 3.30pm. At this rate, it’ll be dark by the time Rory McIlroy is done, but he can light the place again after a brilliant first-day 66.
Rory gets going at 2.59pm as he looks to take control of the 150th Championship. Home hero Bob MacIntyre starts at 1.26pm. David Law is first-up of the home team at 9.14am with Paul Lawrie setting off at 11.36am.
Other than Ryder Cup captain Henrik Stenson getting wet, there's not masses happening on the course first thing this morning, but there are controversial scenes in the Media Centre dining area.
With a bit of cold in the air, a full Scottish fry-up is just the ticket ahead of the morning walk around the Old Course.
However, not everyone has the taste. When confronted by the sight of a young lady hovering the tongs above a potato scone, a prim English gentleman quickly stopped her from proceeding and insisted he was happy to leave a “pitta bread” off his breakfast plate.
