The winner of this years Open Championship will take home a cheque of €2.5 million.
The final major of the year, which kicked off today and concludes on Sunday, boasts the largest prize money purse in Open Championship history, with €14 million to be handed out to players over the next few days.
Rory McIlroy may well be the man to take home the €2.5 million winners fee and the Claret Jug come Sunday evening. The 2014 Open winner carded an impressive 6-under par round of 66 to sit second in the leaderboard, a couple of shots off clubhouse leader Cameron Young.

2019 Open Champion Shane Lowry opened his championship with a level par round and is eight shots behind young. However, there's still plenty of time for the Offaly man and fellow Irish stars Seamus Power and Padraig Harrington to shoot their way into contention over the next three and a half days.
