The One Show's Ronan Keating breaks silence on son Jack's baby news as co-star jokingly calls him 'grandad'

Ronan Keating has broken his silence on news that his son Jack has become a father. Discussing his new role as a “grandad” on BBC’s The One Show on Monday, March 20, it was the first time the Irish singer and TV presenter had referenced becoming a grandfather at the age of 46.

After announcing what would be coming up on the show, co-host Jermaine Jenas quipped: “Well said, grandad,” and Ronan simply replied, “Oi”. Jermaine then added: “You’re a grandad now,” and Ronan confirmed the news.

“I am. My son had a gorgeous baby and Storm and I are grandparents,” said Ronan and Jermaine then asked: “But you prefer to be called something else?” Ronan then revealed that he like to be called, “Pops”.

Ronan’s son Jack, who appeared on ITV2 dating show Love Island last year, announced that he’d become a father on March 9. He revealed the news in a sweet Instagram post that featured a black and white photo of him holding his newborn baby. The post was captioned: “Welcome to the world my little [baby emoji].”

While Ronan didn't reveal the sex of the baby, his ex-wife Yvonne Connolly, let slip it's a baby girl when she commented on her son's post saying: "I miss her so much already."

Following the announcement, MailOnline revealed that the baby’s mother was artist Keely Iqbal. Keely works as an artist designing custom trainer designs and greeting cards and kept her fans in the loop during her pregnancy by sharing various bump snaps.

Upon posting the sweet photo, Jack was met with countless congratulatory messages. Of those who replied to the post was Welsh islander Paige Thorne, who wrote: “Congratulations hunny.” Elsewhere another of Jack’s co-stars, Cheyanne Kerr, replied: “Congrats @jackkeating11.” His father Ronan, meanwhile, wrote at the time: “Little Cutie”.
