The One Show’s Alex Jones shuts down guest over confession that she hasn’t used A Levels ‘once’

The One Show’s Alex Jones promptly shut down singer Maisie Peters after she admitted to never having to use her A Levels. A segment on Thursday’s, May 18 episode of the BBC programme focused on how teenagers can better cope with their exams.

Discussing her own exams Maisie, who is 22 years old, said: “I was a try-hard so I was head down studying, which isn’t very cool.” She then made a shock confession.

“Luckily for everyone out there, I did really well in my A Levels and I haven’t used them once! So there’s something to consider,” Maisie joked and Alex quipped: “All parents will be loving the message.” For the latest TV and showbiz news sign up to our newsletter here.

Several people on social media picked up on the moment. “Maisie #theoneshow saying she doesn’t use her good exam results just before an article on how to study,” one person said. A second added: “I did really well in my A Levels and never used them once! literally obsessed with her.”

Not everyone was enthusiastic and someone else wrote: “Great bit of advice to her fans.... Don't worry if you fail your exams you don't need to use them afterwards!! Shocking from someone that is a role model to so many doing their exams. Not the smartest advice at all.” Do you agree with Maisie? Let us know in the comments.

Elsewhere in the episode Alexander Armstrong chatted about his new Channel 5 series in which he travels to Sri Lanka - find out more about him here.

The One Show airs on BBC One and BBC iPlayer at 7pm on weekdays.
