The One Show issue awkward apology over swearing in interview with Dame Helen Mirren and Shazzam! co-star

There was confusion in The One Show studio as host Roman Kemp was forced to apologise to viewers on Monday after guest Zachary Levi accidentally swore during an interview about his new film. Zachary slipped up as he and co-star Dame Helen Mirren discussed their American superhero movie Shazam! Fury of the Gods based on the DC Comics character Shazam.

The actor said "p****d off" when describing his character Shazam. He then turned to Dame Helen as he described her character Hespera the daughter of Atlas.

"And then you add to the mix these three incredible, powerful, beautiful, talented women Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu and Rachel Zegler," he continued. "They are the daughters of Atlas and they are p****d off."

As they ended the interview Roman said: "Just quickly, I just want to apologise for any language that you may have heard a moment ago." And he added: "Certain words mean different things in different sides of the ..."

"What did we say?" asked Dame Helen. And Zachary gasped: "What did we say? Oh my god! I can't wait to watch this on the Internet."

Roman and co-host Alex Jones reassured: "It doesn't matter." But Dame Helen pressed: "Was it me or him?" "Don't worry" said Roman as he joked that it was Alex.

The slip-up had some viewers tweeting as @AnnFaramus said: "Hmmm did Helen Mirren co star just swore! Naughty naughty!" But @Liverbird_11 asked: "Why apologise it only draws more attention to what has been said by the guest …..carry on no one cares."

@FlopsyPickle commented: "He said a naughty word." @whatjaynereads asked: "Oops. Can we say p****d off now?" And @Pyjama_Girl777 remarked: "Lol I was like what?""

Zachary and Dame Helen laughed over the confusion as they didn't realise what had been said (BBC)

But other fans were mostly distracted by Dame Helen, 77, looking pretty in pink. @AnnFaramus gasped: "Dame Helen Mirren looking good!" @SamanthaMalin marvelled: "How fabulous does Helen Mirren look ??? FFS. I would never wear that colour." And suzysasha said: "#TheOneShow @BBCTheOneShow Helen Mirren is stunning! Looking pretty in pink."
