Liverpool's hunt for a central midfielder looks like it may come without a good ending for fans, with the transfer deadline window closing in just over 24 hours and no deal seemingly close.
Jurgen Klopp has already confirmed Liverpool made an attempt to sign a midfielder earlier this year before seeing the transfer target join another club. This is believed to be a reference to Aurelien Tchouameni, who joined Real Madrid from Monaco for a large sum earlier this summer.
And the Reds' interest in Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham is also no secret, but the German side are hoping to keep hold of the teenage midfielder.

And the Reds boss admits he is wary of adding the wrong player to his squad before Thursday's transfer deadline as he explained how his current first-choice is unavailable at present.
Although the two above names in Bellingham and Tchouameni had been the ones who many would assume would be top of Klopp's priority of signings if he could bring them in, that may not be the case.
Sky Sports reporter Melissa Reddy has now stated that it could actually be a Newcastle midfielder who Liverpool may prefer.
Speaking to The Anfield Wrap, Reddy said: "If there was a blank canvas, if availability wasn't an issue - it would be Bruno Guimarães at Newcastle. Somebody at City said similar, they can't believe Newcastle got that deal - they think that's going to look like an absolute steal and it already is."
