The Office Keith actor rejected from job requiring 'Keith from The Office type'

An actor from The Office has revealed his application to a job was unsuccessful - despite it requiring someone who closely resembled him.

Ewan MacIntosh, who played deadpan accountant Keith Bishop in the Ricky Gervais comedy, auditioned for a gig that required someone who looked like the character.

But when he decided to give it a shot, he was rejected.

The 45-year-old told the Almost Famous podcast that he can't rely on past roles to secure him new ones - even it it's practically written for him.

The Office, penned by Ricky and Stephen Merchant, ran for two series and a Christmas special between 2001 and 2003.

The beloved series, which followed tragic office manager David Brent (Ricky), was so successful it spawned a Steve Carrell-fronted spin-off across the pond.

Ewan's character Keith was a particular fan favourite, creeping out his colleagues with his unflinching, unfazed gaze.

Opening up about his career, Ewan remarked: "It's never been all high points.

The sitcom was hugely popular (BBC)

"I remember, there was a thing came through for an advert for Norwich Union and on the brief they said we want a sort of Keith from The Office character.

"My agent went: 'I'll put you up for it'. I went: 'Really?'. They went: 'Yeah go along, they want a Keith from The Office...

"And I went along - and I didn't get it. Similar things happened a couple of times."

Ewan added that he's flogging personalised video messages to the sitcom's ardent and fan base.

"When lockdown happened this whole fad of like video messaging, like Cameo and CelebVM, really kind of took off," he continued.

"I'm doing that a lot. I would say all my requests bar none are for me to do Keith lines and Keith quotes for people's birthday messages, stag dos and weddings and so on.

Ricky's After Life has been met with critical acclaim and soaring Netflix ratings (NETFLIX)

"That has really, I have got to say, financially, has got me through the pandemic in quite a big way."

The Office is often considered Ricky's big break into the world of showbiz.

He's now a highly regarded writer, stand-up and, of course, five-time Golden Globe host.

His most recent project, the Netflix series After Life, has been met with critical acclaim and is set to air a third and final series in 2021.
