There’s an incredibly steep learning curve associated with becoming a new parent. When I welcomed my son, it felt as if all the information I had learned in the infant development classes I had taken left my mind almost immediately. The same goes for the seemingly simple swaddling technique I learned on YouTube (turns out it wasn’t quite as straightforward at three in the morning). But one of the few things I did remember in those early days was how many seasoned parents recommended the Nuna MIXX Next stroller while I was shopping for baby gear. And right now, it’s on sale for $220 off as part of the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale.
Honestly, I initially balked at the Nuna MIXX Next’s price tag—$850 felt like an unreasonable amount to spend on a stroller. But after hearing glowing review after glowing review, my husband and I decided to make the investment. We justified the cost because we plan to have more than one child and the stroller is suitable for kids up to 50 pounds, making it a good long-term option. Now, a year and a half later, I’m so glad we splurged.
While the stroller market is saturated with brands, Nuna stands out for several reasons. For one, their products are some of the safest and most aesthetically pleasing in the infant space. The company also excels at creating well-made products that grow with your child, are compatible with each other and are incredibly easy to use. The Nuna MIXX Next is all of the above.
In the early days of parenthood, I found it incredibly helpful that the Nuna Pipa Lite LX infant car seat (also on sale, thanks to Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale) attached to the stroller with the included ring adapter. This meant I could easily transfer my sleeping infant from the car to the stroller (and vice versa) without having to wake him. As every parent knows, nap time is precious.
When my son was around six months old, I started using the larger seat that comes with the Nuna MIXX Next. The five-position recline system made it easy to keep him comfortable. If we were walking on a greenbelt trail (the all-terrain tires make that possible) and he felt like resting, I’d face the seat toward me and recline it fully, pulling down the 50+ SPF canopy to give him some shade. At the zoo or the park, I’d face the seat outward and sit him all the way up so he could people watch. And now that he’s older, the five-point harness and automatic locking buckle are helpful in keeping him secure during toddler temper tantrums.
Although the stroller is a bit heavier than I’d like (it weighs a little over 28 pounds), it folds up easily and compactly no matter which way the seat is facing—making it super easy to transport. And while some users complain that removing the seat covers for cleaning reasons is tedious, I’ve found that spot cleaning usually does the trick. The only thing that I’ve found frustrating about the Nuna MIXX Next is that even in the upright position, the seat is still a bit reclined. My son loves sitting up all the way, so I wish the stroller gave him that option. That said, he doesn’t seem to mind holding himself up straighter with the arm bar.
Bottom line? I would recommend the Nuna MIXX Next to any parent who’s in the market for a stroller that will grow with their child and adapt to his or her needs. While it’s definitely on the more expensive end of the spectrum, the quality, ease of use and adaptability of the Nuna MIXX Next make it worth every penny at full price—so at $220 off it’s a total steal.
