The number of hospital patients with Covid is steadily rising across Nottinghamshire as the UK's infection rate increased by 30 per cent in a week. The number of cases in the country jumped by more than half a million, with the rise likely to be driven by the latest Omicron variants BA.4 and BA.5, Office for National Statistics figures show.
This is the highest estimate for total infections since late April, but is still some way below the record high of 4.9 million seen at the peak of the Omicron BA.2 wave at the end of March. In Nottingham, the number of patients with covid using hospital beds has risen to its highest level in more than a month.
On Thursday, June 28, they accounted for 151 beds across Queen's Medical Centre and City Hospital. Just two critical care beds were being occupied by covid patients on the same day.

Elsewhere in Nottinghamshire, 49 covid patients were spread across King's Mill, Newark and Mansfield Community hospitals - the highest since May 24.
Sherwood Forest Hospitals, the NHS trust that runs the three hospitals, reintroduced facemasks for patients, visitors and staff on June 28. The move was in response to the rising figures, both nationally and locally.
