Whether you need to get some groceries, are buying your favourite newspaper or looking for something to help your sweet tooth, corner shops have everything. We checked out one of Mansfield's highest-rated stores and spoke to the people behind the counter.
Justina Corner shop is run by Ina Strovalda, 45, who moved to England from Latvia 17 years ago, and her Lithuanian husband. The store, in Westfield Lane, Mansfield, sells just about everything, but one selling point stands out.
Ina and her husband have cakes sent from 1,594 miles away in Lavia to England. They complete the final stage of the bake when they arrive in Mansfield and it's certainly something which has proven to be a hit with customers.
One satisfied customer wrote on Google reviews: "Delicious cakes freshly baked in shop." Another added: "Best Latvian grocery store in Mansfield."
Ina, who had never run her own business before, talked about the challenges that come with the day-to-day operations of the store and what she enjoys about it. She said: "The cakes are what lots of people like and come in for. We get them sent over from Latvia and then we bake them for about half an hour and it's ready to go.
"It was difficult, it still is difficult with prices going up and things changing. I had never run a business before and you never relax - we're always looking for new things to get in that customers might want and always asking them what they want us to bring in.
"Me and my husband run it - he really wanted to do it when this place became available, but I was unsure because I had never run a business before but I'm happy we did it now. I speak Lithuanian, Latvian, English and Polish so it's easy to speak with different people that come in.
"I'm trying to learn Romanian too because we get a lot of Romanian customers. My staff are always saying 'we change things each month' but I think that works well. I think some people just come in for a chat as well, which is always nice."
