The Norwegian Doctor Who Took on Sweat and Aesthetics – Meet Dr. Peter Svamo

The Norwegian Doctor

When Dr. Peter Svamo first entered medical school, he didn’t envision one day founding multiple successful clinics across Scandinavia. Nor did he foresee that his name would be synonymous with advanced sweat treatments and aesthetic care. But life has a curious way of leading you to unexpected yet fulfilling places.

Today, Dr. Svamo is the founder and Chief Medical Officer of Stadskliniken.se, Svettkliniken.se, Estetiskeklinikken.no, and Svetteklinikken.no – clinics that have carved a niche for themselves in both aesthetic medicine and the highly specialized treatment of hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating).

“It started with a desire to make people feel better in their skin,” says Dr. Svamo, seated comfortably in his office at Stadskliniken in Stockholm. “When you treat someone for excessive sweating and they come back saying they feel confident in a shirt for the first time in years—that’s when you know you’re in the right profession.”

The Journey from Hvaler to Stockholm

Born and raised in Hvaler, Norway, Peter Svamo’s medical roots were grounded in general practice. His early years were marked by rotations through emergency rooms and primary care clinics in both Norway and Sweden. He served at respected institutions like St. Olavs University Hospital in Trondheim, Karolinska University Hospital in Solna, and Capio S:t Görans Hospital in Stockholm.

But his entrepreneurial instincts didn’t sleep for long.

“In general practice, I saw countless cases where patients suffered silently from issues like excessive sweating or appearance-related concerns,” he explains. “They weren’t life-threatening, but they affected daily life profoundly. I knew I wanted to help fill that gap.”

In 2016, Dr. Svamo acted on that vision and launched Svettkliniken, a clinic dedicated to treating hyperhidrosis using advanced methods like botulinum toxin (Botox) and miraDry® microwave therapy. The response was immediate and powerful.

Patients from across Sweden—and eventually Norway—began seeking out his services. For many, these weren’t vanity treatments, but life-changing interventions that restored self-esteem and social comfort.

Sweat, Science, and Sensitivity

Hyperhidrosis affects around 5% of the population, yet it's a condition that's rarely spoken about openly. Dr. Svamo’s clinics changed that.

“At Svettkliniken, we treat people who’ve struggled with sweat for years—students, athletes, business professionals,” he says. “They’ve tried every antiperspirant, every trick, and they still feel like it’s controlling their lives.”

By offering both temporary solutions (like Botox, which inhibits sweat gland activity for months) and permanent options (like miraDry®, which eliminates sweat glands through controlled microwave energy), Svettkliniken provided relief that few others were offering in the region.

The clinics in Stockholm, Gothenburg, and Malmö are now regarded as pioneers in hyperhidrosis care, and the concept has expanded into Norway with Svetteklinikken.no.

But Dr. Svamo didn’t stop there.

The Rise of Stadskliniken – Science Meets Beauty

While Svettkliniken addressed medical issues, Dr. Svamo noticed a growing demand for aesthetic treatments grounded in professionalism and safety. In response, he opened Stadskliniken.se, a sleek and modern clinic in central Stockholm offering laser and injection-based treatments—ranging from facial rejuvenation to scar reduction and vascular treatments.

He was determined to create a space that avoided the hype of beauty trends and instead focused on evidence-based, safe, and personalized care.

“People are smarter now. They want natural results and they want to trust who’s treating them,” he says. “We don’t sell illusions—we create realistic, healthy outcomes.”

Today, Stadskliniken boasts a team of experienced clinicians, all specializing in non-surgical treatments. Their services are both medical and cosmetic, reflecting Dr. Svamo’s dual passion for health and aesthetics.

The Nordic Philosophy: Empathy and Excellence

There’s a distinct Nordic touch to the clinics Dr. Svamo has created. Minimalist in design but maximalist in care, the environments are calm, welcoming, and intimate. Patients are treated with empathy, not judgment—a philosophy that’s deeply personal for Dr. Svamo.

“I think our Scandinavian roots help us connect with people,” he reflects. “It’s about listening, being honest, and giving every patient the time and attention they deserve.”

This approach has earned glowing testimonials from patients who rave not only about the results but about the way they were treated—as human beings, not numbers.

A Doctor, Father, Entrepreneur, and Innovator

While still seeing patients regularly, Dr. Svamo is also a board member at iApotek Int AB, and a frequent speaker on the intersection of healthcare delivery and medical technology. He’s an innovator at heart, always researching new methods, devices, and protocols to improve patient outcomes.

But his heart, he says, is still in the room with the patient.

“One of my patients told me she finally wore a grey shirt to work,” he recalls with a smile. “She hadn’t done that in ten years because of sweat stains. That may seem small, but to her, it was huge. That’s the kind of change I live for.”

With four successful clinics across Sweden and Norway and thousands of satisfied patients, what’s next for Dr. Svamo?

“We’re looking at expanding our educational efforts abroad—both to patients and other healthcare providers,” he says. “Hyperhidrosis is still underdiagnosed, and many aesthetic treatments are still misunderstood. We want to be leaders not just in care, but in education.”

And when asked if he ever thought this is where medicine would take him, he laughs.

“Not at all. But I’m glad it did.”

Two Quotes from Dr. Peter Svamo:

“When you treat someone for excessive sweating and they come back saying they feel confident in a shirt for the first time in years—that’s when you know you’re in the right profession.”

“We don’t sell illusions—we create realistic, healthy outcomes.”
