The noodle bar that's just been named the best takeaway in Wales - and what it's really like

A noodle bar has just received the top Welsh honour in the 2020 British Takeaway Awards.

Organised by delivery service Just Eat, the awards recognise the nation's favourite places that deliver their food to our doorsteps.

The shortlist saw a number of local takeaways battling it out for 12 regional titles and, in Wales, WIWO in Cardiff beat four others to be named the best. And it's no stranger to the crown, having picked it up in 2017.

WIWO is based on Woodville Road in Cathays and offers a selection of noodle dishes. Diners can create their own meal by choosing their favourite bases, sauces and extras and there are vegan and gluten-free options as well as a lunch deal.

You can choose from a delivery or collection service with free delivery within a mile.

WIWO impressed judges with one of the highest mystery shopping scores across the board and the fact that the takeaway is dedicated to supporting charities and rewarding local emergency service workers with a discount.

The others on the Welsh shortlist were Mama's Indian Takeaway in Cardiff; Traditional No 8 Fish & Chip Shop in Whitland; Uplands Diner in Swansea and Wok In A Box in Pontypridd.

Meanwhile, Nacho Cheese in Trowbridge took the top prize on the night after impressing judges with their great food, high mystery shopper score and the steps it takes to cater for customers' ever-changing dietary needs.

The winners were all revealed during a ceremony at The Savoy in London on Monday night, which was attended by a host of celebrities, including Jimmy Carr, Louise Redknapp and Ainsley Harriott.

The Golden Dragon in Swansea was the last Welsh category winner at the British Takeaway Awards.

The family shop, which has been a fixture in the Port Tennant area for more than a decade, fought off competition from Wok In A Box in Pontypridd, Swansea's Touchline Café and this year's winner, Wiwo Noodle bar in Cathays.
