The nine Omicron Covid symptoms to look for in people who are fully vaccinated

The most common Omicron symptoms have been identified by scientists for those who are fully vaccinated as the UK sees a surge of new Covid cases.

Scotland is experiencing another wave of Covid-19 infections as cases of two Omicron variants increase.

The Omicron sub-lineages BA.4 and BA.5. are part of the reason for the increase as new data shows that one in 30 Scots have Covid, according to the Office for National Statistics.

Nine common symptoms associated with it were previously identified for those who have had the vaccine, with another two crucial early warning signs of the infection.

Scientists have shared the Omicron symptoms you should look out for as the UK sees a surge in cases amid a new wave of infections.

Scientists from Norway completed a study as 66 out of 111 had Covid and of those who took part in the project, 89% had received their Covid vaccine, according to the Mirror.

The eight main symptoms were:

  • Persistent cough
  • Runny nose
  • Fatigue
  • Sore throat
  • Headache
  • Muscle pain
  • Fever
  • Sneezing

Nausea was later added to the list but a warning was issued that mild symptoms were to be expected after vaccination, making it harder to distinguish between Covid or the common cold.

But two early warning signs of Omicron were fatigue and dizziness/fainting.

According to the NHS, symptoms can also include a loss of appetite, feeling sick of being sick, a high temperature and diarrhoea. But again, the NHS states these symptoms are "very similar" to those of other illnesses such as colds and flu.

Although testing is no longer mandatory and free testing from the NHS has ended for most in the UK, those wishing to still test can buy one online or from pharmacies and retailers.

Those who suspect they have Covid are being urged to take a test and follow the guidance to avoid infecting others, including avoid contact and try to stay at home.
