The nine countries where Irish passengers no longer need vaccine proof or a Covid test for entry

Cases of Covid-19 in Ireland continue to rise in the days after the double bank holiday, and while health officials are monitoring the situation, the alarm has not been sounded.

Summer holiday plans will be in full swing as many begin to book their 2022 vacations to the sunny coasts of Spain, Portugal, France and more.

Although restrictions are being eased across the EU and beyond, the need for a vaccination certificate is unavoidable in some of the more popular hotspots.

If you have yet to receive any Covid vaccine, your destination choices are limited.

However, there are nine countries across the globe right now that are welcoming passengers without any vaccine or negative test proof.

Passengers are reminded to keep an eye on the Covid situation at their destination before departure in case entry rules change in line with new case spikes.

Slovenia

Restrictions due to Covid-19 no longer apply when entering Slovenia for Irish passengers.

This means that the RVT (recovered/vaccinated/tested) condition no longer has to be met at the border and travellers will no longer be ordered to quarantine at home.

Passengers should research the regulations currently in place along the intended route of travel to Slovenia before departure.

Passengers entering Slovenia by flight or by cruise ship should fill out an EU Digital Passenger Locator Form prior to arrival in Slovenia.

Hungary

There are currently no Covid-19 travel restrictions in place for travel into Hungary, regardless of citizenship.

However, anyone wanting to travel to Hungary should continue to monitor the epidemiological situation.

Passengers should be aware that restrictions are subject to change at short notice, and additional restrictions may be imposed by the country of your destination, including during your visit.

Romania

Covid-19 related travel requirements for passengers arriving in Romania have been lifted. Irish citizens travelling to Romania should continue to exercise caution and follow guidance locally.

Irish nationals do not require visas for visits to Romania. However, those that intend to stay there for longer than 90 days must register with the Romanian Authority for Immigration.

Iceland

Anyone considering travel to Iceland should check the latest information from the local authorities regarding requirements for international passengers arriving in the country.

All Covid-19 measures at the Icelandic border have now ceased and there are no Covid-19 prevention measures in place at the border, regardless of whether individuals are vaccinated or unvaccinated.

Mexico

There are currently no vaccination or Covid-19 testing requirements for entering Mexico.

However, those arriving will be required to complete a health survey upon landing.

If you show symptoms of Covid-19 after arrival, you should speak to the International Health Team.

Norway

There are no Covid-19 prevention measures currently in place at the border, regardless of whether individuals are vaccinated or unvaccinated - but visa requirements have not changed.

However, local airlines might continue to request proof of vaccination or recovery and they recommend having this information available.

There are no Covid-19 restrictions in place in Norway but passengers are advised to continue to follow the guidance of national and local authorities, which is subject to change.

Jordan

Visitors to Jordan no longer need to show proof of negative PCR test. Prior to arrival, you need to register your details on the Visit Jordan Platform.

If you test positive while in Jordan, you will be required to quarantine at your place of residence for a period of 5 days. After this 5 day period, there is no requirement for a further PCR test.

No isolation is required for those who are exposed to a confirmed case, but passengers must have valid health insurance for their intended stay in Jordan.

Costa Rica

Adults who are not fully vaccinated can visit Costa Rica without taking a test as long as they have proof of travel insurance that covers lodging and medical expenses in case of contracting Covid-19.

Anyone aged 18 or under, along with fully-vaccinated adults, can enter Costa Rica without mandatory insurance.

El Salvador

San Salvador International airport is open to scheduled passenger flights, and land borders with neighbouring countries are also open.

The Government of El Salvador has removed Covid-19 testing/vaccination requirements for entry. Visitors are advised however to bring proof of vaccination with them, as this may be requested for entry into certain events or locations in El Salvador.

COVID-19 related rules and restrictions are in place in El Salvador. Face coverings are required in public spaces but further, often strict, measures can be introduced at short notice.
