The nine changes Newcastle supporters would like to see Eddie Howe make for Tranmere cup tie

Eddie Howe has been urged to make nine changes as Newcastle United begin their Carabao Cup campaign away at Tranmere Rovers. The Magpies travel to Prenton Park for the televised second-round tie on Tuesday night.

United are back in action just three days on from an absorbing encounter at St James' Park. The hosts went toe-to-toe with Manchester City, and earned a point in a 3-3 draw with the Premier League champions.

The clash with Pep Guardiola's side is the start of a testing fortnight for the Magpies, with away assignments at Wolves and Liverpool to come. Newcastle also remain hopeful of making further breakthroughs in the transfer market before the deadline on September 1.

Howe has outlined his intention to progress in both domestic cup competitions this season, but also confirmed changes would be made to his starting eleven. United fans share the same opinion, and summer signing Sven Botman and Joe Willock are the only two players to keep their place in the Fans' XI.

Martin Dubravka replaces Nick Pope in goal, while Paul Dummett, Emil Krafth, and Jamaal Lascelles all come into defence. Sean Longstaff takes the anchor role in midfield, while Elliot Anderson is handed his first competitive in black-and-white alongside Willock.

Chris Wood replaces Callum Wilson up front with the number nine awaiting the result of a scan on his hamstring injury. Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin are also rested, with Jacob Murphy and Matt Ritchie taking the wide roles.
