Week 17’s Monday Night Football game between the Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals will not be completed before Week 18 takes place, the NFL announced Tuesday. That game was delayed, then suspended indefinitely after Bills safety Damar Hamlin collapsed on the field due to cardiac arrest and was then transported to a local hospital via ambulance.
The league has yet to make a decision about whether or not that game will be resumed or when. The ruling came down from Commissioner Roger Goodell after discussions with representatives from both teams as well as the NFL Players’ Association. Week 18’s games — in which both the Bills and Bengals are set to wrap up their 2022 regular season campaigns — are currently slated to take place as scheduled.

The decision comes as Hamlin remains in critical condition at a Cincinnati-area trauma center. While both the Bills and Bengals have qualified for the postseason, the outcome of their Week 17 game would have an impact on playoff seeding. The league has yet to rule whether that game will be completed, if any scheduling changes beyond Week 18 will be necessary, or how a potential no contest between the two teams would affect the upcoming postseason.
