The NFL has discussed plans to move the Super Bowl to London

The NFL may not stop at playing regular season games in London.

According to NFL Commissioner Rodger Goodell, the option of London being the host city of a future Super Bowl is not out of the cards.

"It is not impossible, and it is something that has been discussed," Goodell said during a fan forum in London last week.

Goodell did say that the league will prioritize cities that already have NFL franchises.

The London Super Bowl game won't be until at least 2027 as the next three Super Bowls have already been handed out: 2024 at Allegiant Stadium, home of the Las Vegas Raiders; 2025 at Caesars Superdome, home of the New Orleans Saints; and 2026 at Levi's Stadium, home of the San Francisco 49ers.

The NFL is far and away the most popular league in America in terms of acquiring a live television audience. However, the league has recognized a massive opportunity to expand its market internationally.

The International Series has become a staple for the league for nearly two decades. This season, it scheduled five overseas games and just wrapped up its third and final one in London on Oct. 15. It has two more games in Frankfurt, Germany in November.

It has also explored opportunities to play games in Spain and Brazil.

Last month, the league announced that it would be expanding its rosters to allow for an additional international player on each practice squad. The addition of international players allows for more recognition in the markets of those players, which is how the NBA was able to gain a global audience.
