The Newcastle United training ground feature that will give summer signings "wow" factor

Newcastle United are close to completing an impressive new feature at the club's Benton base ahead of the 2023/24 season.

Work is close to completion on a plush new reception area at the Darsley Park complex with players soon to be checking in at brand new entrance area. The new reception will also be the first point of entry for summer signings as the club's facelift continues.

Since Eddie Howe arrived as manager he insisted on making the point of entrance for players "lighter and brighter" and also installed information screens that tell players what is in store in training during the week. The screens will now be installed in the new entrance building just a few yards from the old reception but insiders feel that refresh will give Newcastle a more professional look.

It is a far cry from the front of the building which once featured a blank space where the Newcastle crest had fallen off during the Mike Ashley era and wasn't replaced for months. The area will also lead into new office space where the recruitment team will be located after a few years in a poky portacabin.

Newcastle's ambitious new board are keen for Newcastle's training HQ to be a place of pride and want potential visitors and new players to be wowed by their entrance to the club's HQ, especially if their transfer could hinge on being impressed by the training facilities.

Co-owner Amanda Staveley said recently: "I remember when Eddie came and we had to put investment into our current training ground because it just wasn't fit for purpose."

The training ground is unrecognisable since the start of even this season with an extended main building, including hydrotherapy and plunge pools, new doctor and physio rooms and the players' canteen and lounge. The new facility should close to full working order by the start of the 2023/24 season.
