The New York encounter which served as a 'good reminder' for Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper

A virtual encounter with a supporter from the other side of the Atlantic served as a reminder to boss Steve Cooper of just how big a club Nottingham Forest is.

The Reds head coach took part in a fans’ forum Q&A session last week - the second such event he has done since taking charge at the City Ground in September.

Almost 2,000 season card holders put their names forward in a ballot to take part, with interest coming both from at home and abroad.

Cooper says he is keen to build on the strong bond he has already established with Forest fans, as the team continue to be backed by large numbers on the banks of the Trent and on the road.

“It was good,” the Welshman said. “I hope it went well, but you’d have to ask the fans that!

“I’ll always want to engage with supporters, and be involved in as many aspects of the club as we can - like looking forward to the Youth Cup tie (against Blackburn Rovers) as well.

“I think we should be doing these things two, three or four times a year maybe.

“I enjoy them, as long as other people are happy with them.

“There was a good turnout. It’s a good reminder, when you see where all the supporters have come from - we even had someone dial in from New York - of how big the club is and how big the fanbase is.

“We’ve got to reach out as best we can. I think it’s an obligation, really.”
