The new West Bridgford shop which is proving a hit before it's even opened its doors

A 'dance mum' from Nottinghamshire says she has been inundated with prospective customers before her new shop in West Bridgford has even opened. Since the announcement the new business would be opening, the team say they have had many requests for costumes and more.

Pixie Dust dancewear is a multi purpose business: Sprinkle with Pixie Dust focuses on costumes and Pixie Dust dancewear is the retail side of things. After working in her dining room for the past 2 years, Laura Donohoe set up this business as she wasn’t happy with the products her daughters were wearing for dance competitions.

Pixie Dust, on Abbey Road in West Bridgford, should open very soon, according to Laura and the team. The aim of the shop is so dance parents can get what they want in one place instead of travelling around. Pixie Dust is also collaborating with independent businesses such as Shades Dancewear.

Shades Dancewear provides inclusive dancewear products in a range of matching skin tone shades. Laura, who signed the lease just under a month ago said: “Everyone’s been working really hard, we have Gerri who does sewing, Gemma doing merchandise and everyone’s brought a different skill set.

“January to March I’ve been fully booked with making tutus ice skating costumes and anything that requires a leotard.” Laura added: “Prices do depend, we’ll be selling at recommended retail prices and then where we can sell things a bit cheaper, we will.”

Dance bags, leotards, active wear, tutus, shoes, hair products and more will be available at the shop. Providing products and fittings for large dance schools, Pixie Dust are also being approached by Irish Dancers, ballroom dancers, ice skaters and more. Gemma Thompson said: “We can fit pointe shoes which are specialised, one fitting can take up to 2 hours. The good thing about this is that dance teachers and parents will be able to get all they need under one roof.”

With a fitting room available in the shop too. The response from the West Bridgford community has been ‘fantastic.’

Laura continued: “I’ve been contacted a lot about boys' dancewear too, that can be difficult for people to find and we will be stocking for boys, girls, children and adults. Kids can come in and choose the nets for their tutus and we help with designs and send pictures as we go along, everything is done inclusively and it feels good to be able to help create fantastic, quality costumes.”
