As offseason team activities get under way across the NFL, the preseason creeps closer as well. The New Orleans Saints are set to play two of their three exhibition matchups on the road. We now know when two of the three games will take place.
New Orleans will open the preseason at NRG Stadium in Houston on Saturday, Aug. 3. The preseason opener will be an evening matchup with a 7 P.M. CT kickoff. This will be everyone’s first look at first-round rookies like Chris Olave and Trevor Penning and a lot of undrafted free agents’ first shot at making an impact and carving their way to the roster. Remember, rosters reduce from 90 players to 85 following this game.
Then, the Saints will travel to meet the Green Bay Packers in Wisconsin. The time and date of this tilt is currently unannounced. According to the New Orleans Saints website, the details will be “announced in the near future.” The Saints are also expected to participate in joint practices with the Packers the week before their preseason meeting. This could end up being a national broadcast in prime time, so stay tuned for details.
Finally, New Orleans will close out the preseason at home hosting the Los Angeles Chargers. The last time these two teams met, cornerback Marshon Lattimore made a game-ending tackle on fourth down, keeping receiver Mike Williams from advancing for a fresh set of downs on a desperation drive. Traditionally, the fourth preseason game is where we get to see starters take the field for a quarter or a half. With only three games on docket now, this could be the first look at starters in action. The Saints and Chargers will face off on Saturday, Aug. 27 at 7 P.M. CT in the Caesars Superdome.
