The weekend is finally here, and with it comes a host of exciting new films and shows dropping on streaming services. If you plan on swapping a night on the town for a lazy night in front of the TV, we have just the things to keep you glued to the sofa.
But if you are not in the mood for harrowing horror or spine-chilling slashers this Halloween, Netflix has just what you need. Whether you fancy a gripping series documenting the brute force of mother nature, or a relentless portrayal of the harsh realities of war, there is something for everyone this October.
Here are the new films and shows available to stream on Netflix this weekend.
Earthstorm
In this four-part docuseries, storm chasers, survivors and first responders recount their harrowing experiences with volcanoes, tornadoes, hurricanes and earthquakes.
If Only
Emma (Megan Montaner) is a 30-year-old woman who is disappointed with her ten-year marriage to Nando (Miquel Fernández) and her family life who feels that her life has lost its luster. Trapped in a routine without any romance or excitement, she realizes that if she could go back in time, she would not accept Nando's marriage proposal and decides she should divorce him.
A couple of days later, while being on her way to see a rare lunar eclipse with her friends, a glitch in time sends her back 10 years earlier, to 2008, and traps her 30-year-old mind in her 20-year-old body. Life gives her a chance to reevaluate who she was and who she wants to become, with the distinct advantage of already knowing what the next decade holds for the world.
This Spanish romance series from Turkish scriptwriter Ece Yörenç prompts viewers to ponder the question, what if?
All Quiet on the Western Front
All Quiet on the Western Front tells the gripping story of a young German soldier on the Western Front of World War I. Paul (Felix Kammerer) and his comrades experience first-hand how the initial euphoria of war turns into desperation and fear as they fight for their lives, and each other, in the trenches.
The film from director Edward Berger is based on Erich Maria Remarque’s world-renowned bestseller of the same name. Also starring Daniel Brühl ( Inglourious Basterds, Rush).
Wendell & Wild
From the delightfully wicked minds of Henry Selick and producer Jordan Peele (Get Out, Nope), comes Wendell & Wild, an animated tale about scheming demon brothers Wendell (Keegan-Michael Key) and Wild (Peele), who enlist the aid of Kat Elliot – a tough teen with a load of guilt – to summon them to the Land of the Living. But what Kat demands in return leads to a brilliantly bizarre and comedic adventure like no other in this fantasy that defies the law of life and death, all told through the handmade artistry of stop motion.
Drink Masters
In this 10-part competition hosted by comedian Tone Bell, twelve of the world’s most innovative mixologists infuse, stir and blend their way through a series of high-stakes cocktail challenges to win a life-changing prize and the title of The Ultimate Drink Master. Think MasterChef, with alcohol.
