The new films and shows out on Amazon Prime this weekend - October 28

With another weekend comes yet another host of exciting new films and shows dropping on streaming services. As the days are getting shorter and the nights growing longer, you may be tempted to ditch a night on the town for a lazy night in front of the TV.

But with so much available on streaming services these days, it can be hard to choose something to watch as you prepare to gorge yourself on your favourite takeaway. Whether you are in the mood for a bingeable crime thriller with a hint of the supernatural, or a nail-biting cat-and-mouse horror just in time for Halloween, Amazon has you covered.

Here are the new films and shows available to stream on Amazon Prime Video this weekend.

The Devil’s Hour

In this six-part thriller, Lucy (Jessica Raine) is woken every night by terrifying visions at exactly 3.33am: the devil’s hour. Her eight-year-old son is withdrawn and emotionless and her mother speaks to empty chairs.

Lucy’s house is haunted by the echoes of a life that is not her own, and when her name is inexplicably connected to a string of brutal murders, the answers that have evaded her all these years will finally come into focus.

Peter Capaldi plays a reclusive nomad, driven by a murderous obsession who becomes the prime target of a police manhunt led by compassionate detective Ravi Dhillon (Nikesh Patel). All six episodes of The Devil’s Hour drop on Friday (October 28), making it perfect for a weekend binge.

Run Sweetheart Run

This supernatural horror follows timid and hardworking single mother Shari (Ella Balinska), who brushes away hesitations and decides to dip her toe back into the dating scene after being spurred on by her coworkers. She is thrilled when her boss sets her up on a blind date with Ethan (Pilou Asbæk), who initially proves every bit as charming and magnetic as his photo.

But Ethan cannot hide his true nature for very long, and when things quickly turn sinister, Shari must find a way to escape. Forced to navigate the streets of late-night LA on foot, Shari learns Ethan is far more connected and violent than she ever imagined.

The Peripheral – Episode two

Set in a future where technology has subtly altered society, this mind-bending sci-fi thriller from Westworld creators Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan centres on Flynne Fisher, a woman trying to hold together the pieces of her broken family in a forgotten corner of tomorrow’s America. Flynne is smart, ambitious, and doomed, and her world is turned inside out when she discovers a secret connection to an alternate reality and a dark future of her own.

Following the series debut last week, Flynne finds herself seeking answers after mercenaries raid the family home. Returning to the headset, she learns it is not a game, but a time machine that goes 70 years into the future, leading her to make a deal with Wilf and Lev and agree to help find Aelita.
