The Netflix series with near perfect Rotten Tomatoes score that is back in top 10 two years after it released

A Netflix series with an almost-perfect Rotten Tomatoes score has returned to the streaming service's top 10 most-watched list two years after it was released. Mini-series Maid secured climbed to the eighth spot on the English language series list last week, thanks to clips of the show trending on TikTok.

The Emmy-nominated drama, inspired by Stephanie Land's 2019 book Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay, and a Mother's Will to Survive, garnered 14 million hours viewed on Netflix between May 22 and May 28. Maid, which premiered in October 2021, follows American single mother Alex, who becomes a housecleaner to make ends meet.

She's in the midst of escaping an abusive relationship and overcoming homelessness to create a better life for her young daughter when she appears to hit a never-ending set of bumps in the road. Margaret Qualley stars as Alex, while her real-life mum Andie MacDowell plays Paula Langley, her eccentric and unreliable on-screen mother.

Melissa and Joey star Nick Robinson is Sean Boyd, Alex's former partner and the father of their child Maddy, who is portrayed by Rylea Nevaeh Whittet. Ginny and Georgia's Raymond Ablack, Twilight's Billy Burke and Little Fires Everywhere star Anika Noni Rose are also part of the cast.

The oftentimes harrowing series explores poverty, addiction, domestic abuse and complicated family dynamics, yet threads of hope and dark humour run throughout its 10 episodes. One Rotten Tomatoes critic wrote in 2021: "This drama is powerful, heart breaking, inspiring, and absolutely one of the best shows on Netflix I've seen all year" while another added: "We need more stories like this and, hands down, "Maid" deserves all the acclaim it gets."

A number of TikTok accounts have been posting snippets of the show to the platform. One user received more than 10 million views on just one video, while other clips have had anywhere from hundreds of thousands, to a few million views.

New viewers took to social media to share how they discovered the series. @kayleejne tweeted: "i kept seeing snippets of the show maid on tiktok so i started watching it and can’t stop."

@Jessificashun added: "tiktok made me watch maid so now i’m watching maid on netflix" while @ChompRawrMoo admitted: "I had no idea it existed until tiktok pulled me to it".

Meanwhile previous viewers were delighted to hear of Maid's renewed success, with some demanding a second season. @DavidMackayy said: "It was so GOOD, need a series 2" while @lilianaevelynn demanded: "NEEEEED a season 2!!!! I want to see Alex with everything she’s ever dreamed of".

@oceanblvdvinyl said: "i loved this show so much, i'm glad it gets the success it deserves!" @Black_Wayfarer wrote: "Margaret Qualley's performance is outstanding. One of the best Netflix Originals" and @MjpDocument added: "Brilliant show need another series".

All 10 episodes of Maid are available to stream now on Netflix.
