The Neath tech firm providing real-time multilingual translations for the Women's T20 World Cup

Neath-based sports translation agency, 10 LOC, is providing a multilingual in real-time translation and subtitle tech solution for press conferences at the Women’s T20 World Cup in South Africa.

The start-up, founded by Ben Dobson, has teamed up with two pioneers in the AI (artificial intelligence) development community, Sai Krishna and Ramsri Golla, to create SuperTranslate.ai.

Combined with 10 LOC’s global team of native linguists, press conferences at the tournament - conducted in English, as well as Urdu, Sinhalese, Afrikaans, Hindi and Bengali - will be transcribed and translated with a fast turnaround allowing the ICC (International Cricket Council) to distribute to media outlets worldwide.

The value of 10 LOC’s contract with the ICC for the tournament has not been disclosed.

Mr Dobson said “Our goal has always been to meet the real-time immediacy that sports properties demand in order to engage their global fan base across social media, YouTube, and broadcast channels.

“Our partnership with Sai and Ramsri, along with our utilisation of OpenAI, has enabled us to develop a cutting-edge technology solution that provides real-time support to the sports industry, no matter what the language. We’re proud to have been selected by the ICC for the Women’s T20 World Cup and can’t wait to showcase the power of our solution offering a level of service that was previously un achievable.”

10 LOC has already worked with high-profile clients in the sport, entertainment and business industries, including Ligue 1 (French football league), Tottenham Hotspur, YM&U and Deloitte.

As well as the Women’s T20 World Cup a women’s IPL cricket tournament will shortly debut in India.

10 LOC’s team of 60-plus - who are located globally - comprise of project managers, video editors, linguists and developers.
