The NBA is heading back to Seattle… for a day.
The league is sending the Portland Trail Blazers and Los Angeles Clippers to play against one another in an October 3rd preseason game at the Climate Pledge Arena, the newly-renovated home of the WNBA’s Seattle Storm and NHL’s Seattle Kraken.
It’s the first time Seattle has hosted an NBA game since 2018, when the Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings faced one another. That night Seattle fans got to see the last great SuperSonic, Kevin Durant, perform in the city for the first (and last) time since the franchise relocated to Oklahoma City.
This year’s event, called the Rain City Showcase, will not feature any former Sonics—unless Jeff Green gets traded to either squad.

Pacific Northwest fans will get to remember the NBA energy once more, for the time being. But the question remains — will Seattle ever get another NBA team?
