The National have announced a massive Manchester date for summer

The National have announced a special headline show will take place in Manchester’s Depot Mayfield this summer. Marking their biggest gig in the city to date, The American band will headline the venue on Sunday, August 27.

The award-winning band last performed in the city tour back in July 2019, as part of Manchester’s Sounds of the City. Post-punk band Dry Cleaning will join The National for the one-off event, presented by The Warehouse Project and AEG.

The five-piece, who released their latest album ‘I am Easy to Find’ in 2019, recently announced dates for their 2022 North America tour, starting with Chicago’s Pitchfork Music Festival in July. Speaking about the announcement, The National said: “We are really excited to finally share our full itinerary for summer 2022. The last couple of years have given us ample time for reflection and rejuvenation.

“Summer 2022 is a time for reunion. We look forward to gathering with friends, old and new. United in music and light, suspended in time.”

Depot Mayfield, a 10,000 capacity space in Manchester’s former railway station was transformed as part of a major regeneration project in 2019 to provide a platform for a range of cultural events. The venue launched in the same year with Manchester Pride Live and has become home to The Warehouse Project and Escape to Freight Island.

Tickets go on general sale at 10am BST this Friday, April 8. You can buy yours here. Fans who are signed up to the band’s Cherry Tree online community page can access pre-sale at the same time on Wednesday, April 6.
