The most popular Oscars dress of all time has officially been revealed

Angelina Jolie on the red carpet of the Oscars in a Marc Bouwer dress .

Since the Academy Awards started over 90 years ago, there have been some pretty epic Oscar dresses. There is the most expensive Oscar dress ever worn, the iconic Gwyneth Paltrow Oscar gown and of course the best red carpet dresses of all time.

Yes, from Angelina Jolie's 2012 Atelier Versace dress, with a slit so high that it earned her leg its own Twitter account, to Jennifer Lawrence's bridal Dior look back in 2014 - even if it did cause her to tumble up the stairs, there have been some stunning red carpet moments.

All this to say it's hard to pick a favourite. So, naturally, it's time to call in the resources.

Thankfully, British marketplace OnBuy did the hard work for us, asking over 3,000 people to pick their favourite celebrity Oscars dress of all time - and the results were conclusive.

The world's official favourite Oscars dress ever? Angelina Jolie's 2004 cream satin Marc Bouwer dress, which was unusual thanks to its halterneck design.

While Jolie bagged the top spot with her stunning Marc Bouwer number, she was in good company - closely followed by Kate Hudson and her 2003 blush pink sequin Versace dress, and Keira Knightley's romantic 2015 Valentino gown.

Also in the running were Charlize Theron's Gucci number in 2004, Beyoncé's 2005 Versace look and Nicole Kidman in Balenciaga back in 2007.

Not to mention, Mila Kunis in Elie Saab in 2011, Rosamund Pike's Givenchy gown in 2015, Marion Cotillard's Jean Paul Gaultier look in 2008 and of course Gwyneth Paltrow's iconic 1999 Ralph Lauren dress. See the full list of results below.

The jury's still out as to whether any of this year's Oscars attendees will make their way into the top 10. But with Emma Stone, Sandra Hüller, Lily Gladstone, Carey Mulligan and Annette Bening in the Best Actress category this year, it's certainly a possibility.
