New research has revealed Scotland’s most in-demand areas to buy a house and it seems that rural locations dominate. Three Scots regions were named in the study by mortgage experts at money.co.uk. The group analysed Zoopla data on the most in-demand local authorities in each region to reveal the areas that have seen the most interest from potential buyers.
Whilst the majority of the most in-demand authorities in England are located in built-up, urban areas, Scotland’s home buyers desire something a little more rustic. Rural areas such as Moray, Dumfries and Galloway and Perth and Kinross seem to appeal more to buyers and offer many advantages over urban living, such as less pollution and more green spaces.

Moray is famous for its stunning greenery and numerous whisky distilleries, while Dumfries and Galloway is hugely in demand as one of Scotland's top trending staycation locations.
A spokesperson for the firm said: " Despite rising prices and a global pandemic, the housing market has continued to stay strong in the UK. Houses are still changing hands across the country, but some areas remain more in demand than others. Using Zoopla data, here are the areas where the time between listing a house and a sale being agreed upon is the lowest."
Scottish homeowners may be more likely to benefit from larger plots of land which means increased privacy and the ability to enjoy trends such as 'grow your own'.
This is in contrast to England where Urban areas such as Sheffield and Reading are more highly sought after.
The study also found that selling a house in 2022 is the quickest it has been for five years - with the time taken to sell a house decreasing by 42% since 2016, with April considered to be the quickest house sale time to date, only taking 21 days to agree upon a sale.
