The most colourful looks from Aintree 2022 Ladies Day

Friday marks Ladies Day at Liverpool’s Aintree Racecourse, which means one thing – all out dressing.

And after a windy start to one of jump racing’s biggest weeks, today saw the sun shine and block colour dresses and unmissable hats take centre stage.

In traditionally glitzy and glamourous style, racegoers popped in neon pinks, oranges and blues, and took the time to find the perfect colour combination hats, embellished with heaps of feathers or sculptural spikes.

Meanwhile, others kept it classic in more muted shades, like one attendee in chic pale blue, three quarter length sleeve dress with a white, lace pill box hat.

The stakes are high as Randox, this year’s Ladies Day sponsor, is dishing out prizes for the best dressed. Among other awards, there is a cash bonus for the top three – £5,000 for the winner, £3,000 for the runner up, and £1,000 for third place.

The day has been tackled with extreme enthusiasm after the complications Aintree has faced in recent years – it was cancelled in 2020 due to Covid, and held behind closed doors in 2021.

Jeanette Heaps, from Rainhill, Merseyside, told The Standard: “The sun is shining and it’s amazing, I absolutely love it. I’m buzzing already and I have only just got here and I haven’t had a drink! Liverpool will come out in force and make this the best weekend ever.”

Despite the most the striking fashion coming out today, tomorrow will see the meeting hit its peak, with the storied Grand National taking place at 5:15pm.
