The Miami Dolphins had an all-time and epic performance against the Denver Broncos on Sunday. A 70-20 record-breaking romp was exactly what a packed Hard Rock Stadium full of Dolphin fans had been waiting for.
In a game that saw the Dolphins set or tie 13 team or individual records, the party started from the first drive. A quick march down the field and just three plays until Tyreek Hill hit the end zone with a 54-yard catch and run.
Buy Dolphins TicketsHill, who finished with 157 yards on nine receptions, is on pace for 2,334 receiving yards with a three-game average of 137.3 per contest. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was actually perfect in the first half, as he completed 16 of his 16 for 206 yards and a pair of scores.
Speaking of a pair, the running back duo of Raheem Mostert and De’Von Achane were prolific, to say the least. They each had four touchdowns, becoming the first pair of backs to accomplish this feat in a game since Priest Holmes and Derrick Blaylock who did so in 2004 for the Kansas City Chiefs.
Achane also scored two rushing touchdowns and two receiving touchdowns, making him the only Dolphin to ever do this. The rookie rushed for 203 yards which was the Dolphins’ seventh-best performance on the ground joining names like Ricky Williams, Jay Ajayi and Lamar Smith among the top six spots.
Mostert finished with 142 yards from scrimmage and caught all seven of his targets. He scored three of his touchdowns on the ground and one receiving making him and Achane the first Miami running backs to score at least one of each since Kenyan Drake in 2018.
In what’s been a mix of competent offensive line play and remarkable quickness from Tagovailoa getting the football out, Miami didn’t allow a sack on Sunday for the second time in 2023. On the season, they’ve allowed just one. With 10 touchdowns scored, Jason Sanders set a team record with all of those points after tries converted.
Defensively, Jevon Holland was a monster, leading the team in tackles again and causing two fumbles. David Long had eight tackles, and Andrew Van Ginkel once again was a major factor, recovering one of Holland’s fumbles, recording a tackles for loss as one of his three total tackles, as well as a quarterback hit. Emmanuel Ogbah had a stellar game, getting a sack, a pass defended and his first career interception.
The Dolphins have been nearly unstoppable lately at home, going 13-2 in their last 15.
They’ll now travel to Buffalo for Week 4, and a road victory in Orchard Park would mean a 4-0 start for the first time since 1995. That’s followed by two games in a row back home at Hard Rock against the New York Giants and the Carolina Panthers on Fan Weekend the following week.
