When it comes to keeping more money in our accounts, the first thing that many of us are doing is cutting down how much we shop, how often we eat out and looking at other costs we don't really need.
And whilst these are great and can help cut costs, there are other things that you could be doing around the home - and it's an easy fix.
With Scotland always being cold, especially at this time of year, the temperature in our homes can often leave us feeling like climbing into bed and wrapping ourselves up in a warm blanket.

The expert says that secondary glazing is a method that can help keep homes warmer without breaking the bank and in better news, they also say that it was recently reported homeowners could save up to 60 per cent on their energy bills by utilising the easy hack.
So with more and more people looking into cost effective methods to keep their home warm, with their research finding that Google queries for ‘home insulation cost’ have risen by 48 per cent in the past month, here is what they want you to know.
What you need to know abut the money saving DIY hack
The main benefits of secondary glazing are said to be similar to double glazing but without the cost.
These benefits include:
- Heat insulation
- Noise insulation
- Saving money on your bills
Experts at Cut Plastic Sheeting have said that secondary glazing is a way of adding an extra layer of glazing to existing windows. It is usually installed on the inside of the primary window and is designed to provide an additional barrier to the outside creating a better chance of your property retaining its heat whilst also helping drowning out noise.
Whilst it can also help improve the thermal insulation of your building, it can reduce the number of drafts and cold spots in a room making it a cost effective way to keep the heat in.
Currently, according to Cut Plastic Sheeting, the average gas bill in the UK stands at £1,343.58 annually when taking into account standing charge, unit rate, and typical annual gas use with one person already saving 40 per cent on their monthly bills by installing secondary glazing last year.
They add: "It would cost between £151.27 to £304.50 depending on the thickness of the windows to install your own secondary glazing throughout the average UK home.
"Our research found that by installing your own secondary glazing, you could save up to £806.14 per year on your gas bill. This works out to approximately £67 per month per average UK household."
