'The missing piece' - Manchester United fans make James Garner demand after Aston Villa draw

Manchester United fans have been praising youngster James Garner as he played his first minutes under new manager Erik ten Hag.

Fans have been desperate for the midfielder to show the Dutchman just how good he can be. Garner impressed with Steve Cooper's Nottingham Forest side last season as they clinched promotion to the Premier League.

The 21-year-old has struggled with injuries of late but finally managed to make an appearance against Aston Villa in the final match of their tour of Thailand and Australia. Garner replaced Donny van de Beek shortly after the hour mark.

Conditions in Perth were far from ideal for the Birkenhead-born midfielder as the torrential rain impacted the playing surface. Villa, who made wholesale changes at the break, fought back from 2-0 down to secure a draw against United.

Calum Chambers grabbed an injury-time equaliser for Steven Gerrard's side but that didn't stop United fans from taking to Twitter to heap praise on academy graduate Garner.
