The Met Office forecast for Wales this Christmas Day and Boxing Day

We might have wished for a white Christmas in Wales this year, but we can expect sunny intervals, rain, and mild temperatures instead, according to the Met Office. It has forecasted sunshine and blustery showers across the country throughout Christmas Day, with a "more organised band of showery rain" from the west expected later in the day, which might turn "wintry" over any high ground.

The day will feel mild, with a maximum temperature of 11 °C. Meanwhile, Boxing Day will be cooler, but will remain breezy with showers and sunny intervals. Whether you're planning on going on a festive walk with the family or staying cooped up indoors watching Christmas films, here's what the weather will be like where you are, according to the Met Office.

Cardiff

Christmas Day: It will be a cloudy day in the capital, changing to light rain by lunchtime (around 1pm). There will be highs of 11°C and lows of 5°C.

Boxing Day: It will be clear, changing to light showers by early evening (around 6pm). There will be Highs 8°C, lows 5°C. Sunny spells from 9am to 3pm.

Swansea

Christmas Day: There will be light rain (from around 7am to 8am) changing to cloudy by late morning (from 9am to 10am). There will be more rain around lunchtime but with some sunny spells too between 11am and 2pm. Then rain from 5pm until 11pm. Temperature-wise, you can expect highs 11°C and lows 5°C.

Boxing Day: It will be a clear day in Swansea, changing to partly cloudy by early evening. There will be some sunshine in the morning from 9am to 3pm, but it will be cloudy by 6pm. Highs of 8°C and lows 6°C are expected.

Newport

Christmas Day: It will be a cloudy Christmas in Newport changing to light showers by nighttime. There will be a rain shower around 4pm, then more showers from 8pm to 9pm. There will be highs of 10°C and lows of 4°C.

Boxing Day: It's expected to be a clear day changing to partly cloudy by early evening. There will be sunshine from 9am to 3pm, but it will be cloudy by 6pm. A maximum temperature of 7°C and minimum of 5°C is expected.

Merthyr Tydfil

Christmas Day: The day is expected to be cloudy changing to light rain by early evening. There will be some rain around 9am, then rain with sunny spells around 2pm and 3pm, and finally consistent rain from 7pm onwards. There will be highs of 9°C and, lows of 2°C.

Boxing Day: It will be partly cloudy changing to sunny by late morning. The sunshine will last from 9am till 3pm, before it turns cloudy again from 6pm. Highs of 5°C and lows of 2°C are expected..

St David's (Pembrokeshire)

Christmas Day: Unfortunately for people living in St David's, there will be heavy showers throughout the day, with highs of 11°C and lows of 5°C. There will be rain from 5am, with brief pause at 7am. Then there will be more rain with sunny spells from 9am to 1pm.

There's expected to be a pause in the rainfall around midday, then another pause between 1pm and 4pm, before it starts again with some more sunshine. From 7pm there will be cloud and rain for rest of the day.

Boxing Day: Today will be partly cloudy changing to sunny intervals by late morning, with highs of 8°C and lows 7°C. There will be sunshine and some cloud from around 9 to 3pm, before it turns cloudy from 6pm onwards.

Newtown (Powys)

Christmas Day: Newtown will see light rain changing to cloudy by late morning, with highs of 10°C and lows of 2°C also forecasted. There will be rain from 7am to 8am, then it will turn cloudy with sunny spells around 10am, 2pm and 3pm. There will be more rain from 5pm onwards, with hail expected around 6pm.

Boxing Day: Today will be clear changing to partly cloudy by early evening. Highs of 6°C and lows of 3°C are expected, with sunshine from 9am to 3pm. It will be cloudy by 6pm.

Aberystwyth

Christmas Day: It will be cloudy changing to sunny intervals by late morning, with highs of 11°C and lows 5°C. The sunny intervals will be around 9am, 11am, and then from 1pm to 3pm. There will be some rain from 2pm for the rest of the day.

Boxing Day: It's forecasted to be cloudy changing to sunny intervals by lunchtime. The sunny intervals are expected to be from 12pm to 3pm, however there's also a 40% chance of rain around midday. It will be cloudy from 6pm, with rain expected at 9pm. There will be highs of 7°C and lows of 6°C.

Wrexham

Christmas Day: It will be partly cloudy changing to light showers in the afternoon, with highs of 10°C and lows of 3°C. There will be sunny intervals around 9am, with more sunny intervals around 3pm. But rain is also forecast to starts around 3pm, lasting until 6pm. Then it will be cloudy, with more rain from 9pm onwards.

Boxing Day: It will be a clear day, with highs of 6°C and lows of 3°C. There will be sunshine from 9am until 3am, turning into sunny intervals for the rest of the day.

Holyhead

Christmas Day: There will be heavy showers, starting from 6am until 1pm, but there will also be sunny intervals between 9am and 3pm. There will be more rain from 5pm for the rest of the day. Highs of 11°C and lows of 5°C are expected.

Boxing Day: It will be cloudy changing to sunny intervals in the afternoon. The sunshine will arrive around 3pm, but the rest of the day is cloudy. Temperature-wise, there will be highs of 7°C and lows of 6°C.
