The weather in Georgia can be interesting at this time of year, to say the least, and that was evident in the first two days of The Masters.
The first round was delayed because of thunderstorms, and Friday's play was dominated by strong gusts of wind throughout.
Augusta National's sub-air system, and those strong winds, will have helped to dry out the course and we're set for more warm, albeit somewhat windy conditions over the weekend in what is sure to make for enjoyable viewing.
It's expected to stay dry too, meaning play should be on schedule.
Weather For The Masters This Week
Friday was beset by brutal gusts of wind, with some faring better than others. Still, while some big names missed the cut, hardly helped by the conditions, others have made it safely into the weekend.
One of those is Xander Schauffele, who said of the wind: "It was probably the toughest day that - not that I have a ton of experience here, but definitely will probably go down as hopefully the hardest day at Augusta I’ve ever played."
The conditions made for a long time on the course, too, with joint leader Scottie Scheffler saying: "I feel like I teed off 10 hours ago."
Defending champion Jon Rahm wondered how close play was to being halted: "How long did it take us to play?" he asked. "Over six hours to play just because they had to blow the greens in between groups, and then when you get to a group, people stepping back and back in. It’s just, again, borderline."
Thankfully the forecast is for more forgiving conditions over the weekend, and that's something that pleases three-time Masters winner Phil Mickelson. He said: "I think we’ll be able to enjoy it a little bit more this weekend when it’s nicer and not such a struggle."
According to the most up-to-date Masters forecast, Saturday will be mostly sunny, with temperatures hitting the mid-70s. However, gusts of wind up to 20mph are still expected between 12 pm and 5 pm.
It's due to get even warmer on Sunday, with temperatures reaching the mid-80s and with more sunshine.
