The Masked Singer UK fans believe they have figured out Knitting's identity after a star dropped a clue on social media. The well-loved ITV show returned to screens last night, as celebrity judges Davina McCall, Jonathan Ross, Rita Ora and Mo Gilligan came together to figure out the famous voices singing from underneath bizarre costumes.
Knitting - or the crooner who sported a wool and knitting needles disguise - hit the stage again on Saturday for their second performance of the series. Viewers believed they had already figured out her identity from several signs in last week's episode, but now an online clue has confirmed many fans' beliefs, Birmingham Live reports.
Initial hints suggested Claire Richards from Steps to be the voice behind the mask. Among them was a lone magpie appearing to reference the group's hit One for Sorrow. A second tip-off was a number mentioned in a riddle that is the sum of 5,6,7,8 - another one of the pop band's hits.
Ahead of the latest episode, Claire posted video to her Instagram story of the singer enjoying some crafting. She wrote: "Happy Saturday! This is where I’ll be for the foreseeable!”
Fans watching the show at home were also convinced they had rumbled the star from her distinctive voice. Natasha Lockley wrote: "Knitting has definitely gotta be Claire Richards. She has a distinct beautiful voice."
Belle echoed: "Knitting is Claire from Steps. I closed my eyes during her performance and I know that voice @_ClaireRichards I will die on this hill if it's not her."
Jade added: "Agree that knitting is Claire from Steps. That was defo her voice." Knitting was in the sing-off along with Cat and Mouse but was saved by the celebrity panelists.
