ITV's The Masked Singer has viewers in tears as 'inspirational' Chris Kamara unmasked as Ghost

ITV's The Masked Singer left some viewers in tears as "inspirational" Sky Sports football pundit Chris Kamara was unmasked as Ghost after he was the first contestant to be voted off in the 2023 series.

Back in October Middlesbrough-born Chris Kamara opened up about his battle with speech apraxia that made him "feel like a fraud". It came after he left Sky earlier in the year following 24 years with the broadcasting service.

His condition basically makes speaking very difficult. According to the NHS, a person with speech apraxia knows what they would like to say, but they have difficulty getting their jaw, lips and tongue to move in the way required to form words.

However Chris - who received an MBE in the King's New Year Honours list for his services to football, charity and anti-racism - wowed viewers with his appearance on the ITV singing show.

@Carlyblade asked: "Just me crying at Chris Kamara on masked singer?"

@_moaning-Minnie tweeted: "@chris_kammy Just brought me to tears! Well done, that was huge to do something like that. I was so engrossed watching the programme about your speech recently then to see you on the masked singer....incredible."

@tashhjones said: "Seeing @chris_kammy on the masked singer made me wanna cry. To do what he is after what he’s going through is inspirational. Proud Teesider."

@AdamAtk20365097 said: "Fair play to Kammy even with his speech issues going on masked singer… legend!!! #UnbelievableJeff."

And Lee Douglas tweeted: "@chris_kammy be proud of yourself going on the masked singer you did #Unbelievable."

@samtheaaspie tweeted: Omg "@chris_kammy you legend going on Masked Singer with your difficulties with speech at the moment I take my hat off to you sir!"
