The Masked Singer: Aled Jones 'so supportive' of BAFTA-nominated daughter Emilia's career

At just 19, Emilia Jones has said she was 'blown away' when she learnt that she had been nominated for a BAFTA.

The CODA actress portrayed Ruby Rossi in the film, and is now contending with a number of high-profile actresses to win the 'Best Actress' award.

The daughter of Aled Jones, 19-year-old Emilia has told of how supportive her parents are when it comes to her career, according to the Daily Express.

Speaking to the PA, Emilia revealed that she was actually asleep when the big news broke on Thursday, because she 'never in a million years' thought she would be considered 'against such talented nominees'.

Aled Jones, 51, is best known for The Snowman track 'Walking in the Air', and welcomed Emilia into the world in 2002 with wife, Claire Fossett. Emilia has said that both her parents are 'so supportive'.

“My dad text my mum, ‘What the hell, she's done it’,” she explained. “They're so supportive and they've sacrificed a lot for me to do this so I'm very grateful to have them.”

Critically-acclaimed film CODA follows the story of Ruby (played by Emilia), who is the only hearing person in her family. Ruby dreams of attending Berklee College of Music.

Global popstar Lady Gaga, Marvel's Tessa Thompson, and The Thick of It's Joanna Scanlan are also in the BAFTA category for Best Actress, alongside Emilia.

Discussing her breakout role, Emilia said: “I'm just so grateful that people loved CODA because I did work so hard.

"I was 17 when we shot so I had a big, big workload for 17, so it's nice people are being so lovely.

“I trained for nine months with American Sign Language and had singing lessons too because I loved singing, but I'd never had a singing lesson before, but I also had to learn how to fish.

"So I'd wake up at 3am every morning for two weeks and we'd go out three miles at sea and catch fish for hours and hours, and the Massachusetts accent, I had to learn that too.”

But despite having such a glamorous job, Emilia has revealed that being a young actress comes with its trials and tribulations.

She said: "You always have to make sacrifices... there have been times for me where I have been invited to things with my friends and I haven't gone because I wanted to work and better myself as an actor and focus on my auditions,

"You say 'no' more than you say 'yes' but you shouldn't let it get you down.”

But things have clearly paid off for the 19-year-old, who recently the Verified Hollywood Music in Media Award for Best Onscreen performance.

In addition to winning and being nominated for awards, Emilia was named by Vogue as "2022's Breakout Star to Watch".
