The Masked Dancer's Joel Dommett 'overwhelmed' at work and frets health will deteriorate

Joel Dommett has revealed he sometimes gets "overwhelmed" when hosting big events and even worries that it will negatively affect his health.

The comedian, who presents The Masked Dancer, says he uses various techniques, including wearing a heart rate monitor, to combat his nerves.

37-year-old Joel is set to host October's National Television Awards and admitted he can't wait for the event, saying he's come a long way since he started presenting.

"The thing about live events is that you can prepare and rehearse and deliver jokes that are written to an inch of their lives, but people always remember the bits you can’t plan for," he told the Daily Star.

Joel currently presented The Masked Dancer (ITV)

Joel added: "I still feel new, naïve and I still feel like I am learning. I wear a heart rate monitor and use my experience of fitness training to breathe properly and try and bring my heart rate down before going on stage so I don’t get overwhelmed.

"But I do think I have come a long way though."

The I'm a Celebrity star said he is much more relaxed than he used to be and admitted to now enjoying the pressure of presenting.

The comedian will host the NTAs (ITV)

This year's NTAs will be taking place at OVO Arena in Wembley, with some of TV's biggest names set to join Joel on stage.

He said: "Wembley is so prestigious. You kind of feel the weight of the name when you are there. It feels a bit more old school."

Joel believes this year's awards will be "funnier" and "wild" as it will be airing live, meaning producers won't be able to edit out any embarrassing moments.

Joel could actually end up winning an award, as well as hosting the event, as his show The Masked Singer is nominated in the Talent Show category. It is up against Britain's Got Talent, Strictly Come Dancing and RuPaul's Drag Race UK.

Joel said he would love to win the award, but added it will be tough going up against Strictly.

He said: "They have a huge cast all tweeting and posting for votes and all I have is Jonathan Ross and Rita Ora, and the rest of the cast are secret!"
