'The market will move' - Diogo Jota breaks silence on Liverpool's Darwin Nunez interest

Liverpool forward Diogo Jota became the first Reds player to comment on speculation linking the club with a move for Benfica's Darwin Nunez.

The Echo understands that while the Reds are admirers of the Uruguay international, they have yet to make an official approach for the striker and will not be drawn into a bidding war for a player valued at around £85 million by the Lisbon giants.

The Reds are likely to lose Sadio Mane and Takumi Minamino this summer, with Divock Origi's departure having already been confirmed. As a result, manager Jurgen Klopp will be keen to add to his attacking ranks.

Nunez netted 34 goals in 41 appearances in all competitions last season and as a result, it's no surprise that Liverpool are one of many clubs keen to sign him. Manchester United, Newcastle United and Atletico Madrid are also said to be in the mix.

If he did come in, the 22-year-old would provide direct competition for Jota, who excelled last season as the club's centre-forward before Mane was moved infield later in the campaign.

The Portugal international said he is an admirer of Nunez, but would not be drawn on possible Liverpool interest.

"I don’t know, I’m focused on the national team," he said, per Mais Futebol (h/t Sport Witness ). "The market will move, I have no idea what the signings could be.

"I had the opportunity to play against him and he’s a good player, but I can’t say anything else at the moment."
