The first production pictures of Stephen Mangan and Kara Tointon in The Man in the White Suit have been released.
The 1951 Ealing Studios film has been adapted by Sean Foley, who also directs the show, opening on October 8 in the West End.
Mangan will star as Sidney Stratton, who develops a fabric that never wears out or gets dirty. His breakthrough poses a threat to manufacturers, who try to shut him down, and it is only Daphne, the mill owner’s daughter played by Tointon, who shows him sympathy as his life falls apart.
The cast is completed by Richard Cordery, Richard Durden, Delroy Atkinson, Katie Bernstein, Ben Deery, Matthew Durkan, Rina Fatania, Oliver Kaderbhai, Eugene McCoy, Elliott Rennie and Katherine Toy.
Noah and the Whale frontman Charlie Fink has written brand new songs for the show, with design by Michael Taylor, lighting by Mark Henderson, choreography by Lizzi Gee, sound by Ben and Max Ringham, arrangements by Phil Bateman and fight direction by Alison De Burgh.
The production reunites Foley with Mangan who previously worked on the Olivier Award winning comedy Jeeves and Wooster together.
The iconic 1951 film, directed by Alexander Mackendrick starred Alec Guinness, Joan Greenwood and Cecil Parker and was nominated for an Academy Award for best screenplay.
The Man in the White Suit will run from October 8-January 11 at Wyndham’s Theatre, with previews starting on September 27.
