Imagine sipping on a glass of fizz as you watch the sunset over the Cumbrian countryside, before curling up on a plush sofa after a day walking in the Lake District fells. There’s not a soul around as you enjoy the tranquillity of your own private cabin.
If this sounds like your kind of break, then its what you'll find at the Hutton John Estate, an area of beautiful countryside nestled in a valley between Penrith and Keswick. The latest edition to the estate is four bespoke cabins, offering visitors the ultimate rural retreat.
The cabins are set within and around the ancient woodland of Brow Wood, with each one boasting breath-taking views of the surrounding landscape. Floor-to-ceiling windows help to bring the outside in - so you can even enjoy the scenery when it's pouring down with rain.

Adding to the luxurious feel are private outdoor double-ended bathtubs, which are sunk beneath ground level, and are hard to resist after a day spent hiking. You can still experience your surroundings after dark too as the cabins have their own skylights for stargazing.
Perfect for those who like the outdoors but enjoy indulgent touches, the Highgate Cabins all feature tasteful design features including a colour palette inspired by the location, with forest greens, dark reds and slate greys. There are cosy blankets, comfy sofas and a king sized-bed, perfect for a restful night’s sleep.
Each cabin has a well-equipped modern kitchen with a full-size oven, induction hob, quartz worktop and a dining table. A private decked area is ideal for enjoying al fresco dining or a morning coffee outside.
Guests all have access to the quadrangle, a shared courtyard surrounded by heritage farm outbuildings. If you want to see a different side to the Lake District there are plenty of walks to explore right on your doorstep. Some of the Lake District’s lesser-known footpaths also run through the estate, offering something a bit different.
You can also use the cabins as a base to explore the Lake District as Penrith, Watermillock, Pooley Bridge and Keswick are all short drives away. Ullswater is the nearest lake and the famous Ullswater Steamers are a brilliant way to take in the scenery. You can take one across the water to Aira Force, a beautiful waterfall walk.
For those who fancy a hike, Hallin Fell is nearby and is suitable even for inexperienced fell walkers. Meanwhile seasoned hikers may prefer to take on Helvellyn and Blencathra for more of a challenge.
Each cabin sleeps two people. One cabin is already available to book while the others are set to open at a later date. For more details and how to book, click here.
